Sheriff's Deputy Chris Richards, age 43, of Calhoun. Died Saturday evening March 19th in the Specialty Hospital of Rome.
Chris was born February 29, 1968 in Floyd County. Son of Butch and Pat Richards. Chris had spent all of his adult life in the service of Gordon County and was a respected deputy with the Gordon County Sheriff's Department at the time of his death. He was a member of the Agape Baptist Church , a Licensed Minister and a active member of the Sheriffs Auxiliary.
Besides his parents he is survived by his loving wife, Rose Ann Richards of Calhoun. Three sons; Chris Brock Richards of Calhoun, Mathew Harris of Calhoun and Bradley Harris of Alabama. His best friend, Eric Bohannon of Calhoun.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 3pm from the Trinity Baptist Church. With Rev. Bill Collins , Rev. Winfred Casey, and Roland Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Chandler Cemetery with Chaplain William Roberts and Chaplain Howard Strickland in charge of the graveside rites with Full Honors accorded by the Gordon County Sheriff's Department. The Gordon County Sheriff's Department Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers and members of the Gordon County Sheriff's Department will serve as honorary escorts.
The family will receive friends from 4 until 8pm Monday and Tuesday evening at Trinity Baptist Church. On Wednesday, Chris will be taken to the church to lie in-state from 2pm until the funeral hour.
