Della Mae “Nanny” Sikes, age 89 of Scottsville, passed away on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at her residence.
Nanny was born on February 24, 1923 in Rockdale County, GA. Daughter of the late Zelma Grady Brown and Keron Elizabeth Mitchell. Nanny lived at 121 Mathis Drive in Rome from 1962 until 2004. For the past eight years she lived with her daughter, Joyce and her husband Billy Thomas at their residence in Scottsville. She was a member of the Oak Hill Church of Christ in Rome. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by; her husband, William “Bill” Sikes. One brother, Grady “G.B.” Brown of Louiville, KY. One grandson, Steve Thomas of Scottsville.
Survivors include; One daughter, Joyce and her husband Billy Thomas of Scottsville. One son, Roger and his wife Sarah Burnley of Calhoun. Two brother-in-laws; Bobby Joe and Fred Sikes both of Rome. Six grandchildren; Keith and Brian Thomas of Scottsville, Shawn Thomas Sutton of Adairsville, Cary Burnley of Florence AL, and Jennifer Burnley of Calhoun. Nine great-grandchildren; Mallary Sutton Norton and Tyler Sutton both of Adairsville, Jana Thomas of Apple Valley, CA, Brenton, Dustin, and Taylor Thomas all of Scottsville, Avery and Ellie Burnley of Florence, AL and Abbigal Brown Thomas of White, GA.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00am on Tuesday, June 12th from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with the Minister Steve McCaslin officiating. Dean Sutton will have charge of music. Burial will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Garden Cemetery with Cary Burnley with graveside rites.
Pallbearers serving include; Cary Burnley, Tyler Sutton, Keith, Brian and Dustin Thomas.
The family will receive friends from 5 – 8pm on Monday, June 11th at the funeral home.
