David Carlton Walraven, age 60, of Ranger, passed away Friday evening February 27th at Gordon Hospital.
David was born May 12, 1954 in Murray County, son of the late George Carlton Walraven and Gennie Lee Crider Walraven. He a lifetime resident of the Ranger Community and was a member of the Fairmount High School Class of 1973. He was of the Church of God Faith. David had been employed by the Gordon County landfill at Red Bone Ridges which later became the Santex Environmental Landfill. He had over 30 years of service. Also, he had served as Fire Chief for the Ranger Volunteer Fire Department. David enjoyed the outdoors, cattle and hay farming and deer hunting. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Steve Walraven.
Survivors include two sisters; Darlene W. Johns and her husband Jimmy of Ranger, and Melissa Walraven; a niece, Jennifer Griffin and her husband Brandon; nephews, Jason Johns and his wife Tracie, Trey Nunn, Joseph Walraven and his wife Tiffany and Oakley Walraven, great nieces and nephews; Sawyer Griffin, Grace Johns, Maddie Walraven, and Lilly Walraven, and an uncle, Otto Walraven, and an aunt, Bertha Holcomb.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday March 2nd at 3pm from the chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Rev. Ernest Channell officiating. Burial will follow in the Haven of Rest Memorial Garden. Pallbearers serving include; Jason Johns, Trey Nunn, Joseph Walraven, Oakley Walraven, Brandon Griffin, Chris Johnson, Kevin Talley, and Jeremy Barnes. Honorary pallbearers will include Larry Mulkey; cousins, and the staff of Santex Environmental Landfill.
The family will receive friends Sunday March 1 after 3:30pm at the funeral home.
