Wednesday, September 23, 2009 Mr. David Owens, age 63 of Oakman, died September 22, 2009 at his residence following an extended illness. David was born in Gordon County on November 7, 1945 son of the late Aristo Howard “Ris” and Tennie Pack Owens and had spent most of his life here. He was retired from Lockheed -Martin, was a Member, Deacon, and Sunday School teacher of Oakman Baptist Church. He enjoyed woodworking, wood Turning, and Cabinetry and was a beloved husband, father and “Pop”. He was a Vietnam War Veteran, the U.S. Army. In addition to his parents a brother Bob Owens preceded him in death in 1965. David is survived by his wife Mary Wilkie Owens of Oakman, two daughters and sons-in-law; Andrea and Tim Pitts of Rome and Christie and Scott Fox of Oakman; two granddaughters, Madeline Fox and Claire Fox of Oakman; two brothers; Jim Owens of Erie Pennsylvania, and Bill Owens of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; four sisters, Ruth Collis of Chatsworth, Thelma Harrison of Canton, Ann Swanson of Calhoun and Pat Mealor of Sugar Valley. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M Friday September 25th at the Oakman Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Gibson and Rev. Mark Owens officiating. Interment will follow in the Hopewell Cemetery. Pallbearers include Jackson Lockaby, Jamey Owens, Brian Owens, Sam Owens, Eddy Owens, Larry Causby, Huey Hester, Steve Tatum, and Gary Silvers and they are asked to meet at the church at 1:45 P.M. on Friday. The family will receive friends at Thomas Funeral Home from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Thursday. Karen Owens, Raina Lewis, Kimberly Lewis, Brittany Miller, Hannah Gibson and Iris Parker will have charge of music.
