David Stone Messer, 66, died peacefully at home on Friday, September 23, 2016, following an extended illness. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday September 25, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home. Dr. Brad Brady, Senior Pastor of Perry United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be on Monday, September 26, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. in Fain Cemetery in Calhoun, Georgia. Reverend Roland Fall, Associate Pastor of Perry United Methodist Church, will officiate at the graveside. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial donations to the Perry United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1002 Carroll Street, Perry, GA 31069.
David was a native of Calhoun, Georgia, and had lived most of his life in Chatsworth, Georgia. He moved to Perry in 2002. He was a charter member of Oakman Baptist Church in North Georgia. David was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Messer Abbott; his father, Ralph Madison Messer; and his step-father, Jack Abbott.
Survivors include his brother, Robert Messer (Marguerite) of Perry; his stepsister Starr Rowell (Frank) of Ft. Gaines, Georgia; his nieces, Elizabeth Mitchum (Tim) of Thomasville, Georgia, Susannah Kofskey (Mike) of Huntsville, Alabama, and Camille Gay Whaley, of Dothan, Alabama; his nephew, Dan Gay of Ft. Gaines, Georgia; his great-nieces, Lauren Flowers of Atlanta, Claire Flowers of Lexington, Virginia, and Madeline Kofskey of Dallas, Texas; and his great-nephew, Alexander Kofskey of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
The family would like to express appreciation to David's support coordinator, Mrs. Mozelle Golson, and to his caregivers, Mona Green, Tammy Webb, Linette Quakenbush, and Carol Moseley.
