David Lawrence McLeod, age 97 of Calhoun, GA, passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at his residence.
David was born on September 23, 1923 in Red Bank, TN, son of the late Grady McLeod and Lurley McLeod. David was a graduate of Brooklet (GA) High School and later earned four degrees from the University of Georgia. He was a lifelong educator and served as Superintendent of the Gordon County School System prior to retirement. During his lifetime David was an active member of Lions Club International, Georgia Retired Educators Association, Calhoun-Gordon County Retired Educators Association, Gordon County Historical Society, Calhoun-Gordon County Literacy Council, and Calhoun Gordon County Chamber of Commerce. He was also an active member of Belmont Baptist Church in Calhoun. David proudly served in the United States Marine Corps and was a World War II veteran. In addition to his parents, David was also preceded in death by: his wife, Geneva Ard McLeod; son, Kenneth McLeod; five brothers, Grady Wood McLeod, Bill McLeod, Wendell McLeod, Charles Fontaine, and Eugene Fontaine; and three sisters, Francis Williams, Virginia McDonald, and Evelyn Minnick.
David is survived by: two sons, Wayne Fontaine McLeod and Neal Aligood McLeod; one daughter, Carol Wood McLeod;
Funeral Services will be conducted on Thursday, July 8, 2021 at 11 AM from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Dr. John Bledsoe officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Jim Sellers officiating.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 from 5 PM until 8 PM at Thomas Funeral Home.
