Daniel Edward Ferguson was born on February 7, 1954 in Albany, Georgia. He went to Deerfield High School and graduated in 1972. He played football, basketball, baseball and wrestled. He was in the corps of cadets at North Georgia College and graduated in 1976 with a degree in Political Science. He worked with the Daugherty County Sheriff’s Office for years and later moved to Athens both to attend school and to work in the University of Georgia (Athens) police department. He served in law enforcement for a total of 15 years. At UGA, he earned another degree in 1985 in Accounting. Later, he worked for the Georgia Department of Revenue for 15 years, in various cities and positions across the state. His main positions were a Tax Field Agent and a State Auditor.
He married Carol Skelton Ferguson in 1994 in Tifton. They have been married for 22 years and reside in Calhoun, GA where Daniel was medically retired. He has been on kidney dialysis for 10 years. He has had numerous medical problems for years. He was a member of Belmont Baptist Church and the Rattletrap Sunday School class.
In past churches he has held various positions including Sunday School director and security. He was a proud American and Georgian and was proud of his various forms of service to the state.
He was preceded in death by his mother Bennie Hill Ferguson and William Edward Ferguson of Albany and Fort Gaines, Georgia where they all loved to spend time at the lake. He is survived by his wife Carol Skelton Ferguson in Calhoun, Georgia, a Spanish teacher; his sister Judy Ferguson Donnan in Thomasville, Georgia, a nurse practitioner; nephews Matthew, David, Mark, Joel, John, William, Paul, James, and Joseph; nieces Ashley, Mollie, Jessica, and Michelle; and 9 great nieces and nephews. He loved them all.
We will all miss him. May he rest in Peace with Jesus.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Wednesday, June 8th at 4 PM at Belmont Baptist Church with Reverend Stephen Williams, Reverend Bob Skelton and Reverend Jim Sellers officiating. Scott Brisendine will do a solo.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2 PM until the funeral hour at 4 PM at Belmont Baptist Church.
