Curtis Lamar Bigham, age 92 of Marietta and formerly of Gordon County died Friday, January 2 in Conyers at the home of his brother, LeRoy Bigham.
Lamar was born on April 29, 1922 in Gordon County. He was the son of the late Grady Milton Bigham and Mamie Estelle Forest Bigham. Also, he was preceded in death by his brother, Horace Bigham. He was an alumnus of Belwood High School Class of 1940, and attended Rinehart College until interrupted by World War II. He later graduated from the University of Georgia, Class of 1950. He was a veteran of World War II, U.S. Army, with service in the South Pacific theatre from 1942 to 1945. He was employed by the University of Georgia extension service as county agent. His service included the following counties: Dade, Habersham, Jackson, Cherokee, and Dawson. He was a member of the Sandy Plains Baptist Church of Cobb County.
Lamar is survived by one brother, LeRoy Bigham of Conyers; one sister in law, Annie Mae Bigham of Calhoun; four nieces and nephews, Richard Bigham, David Bigham, Deanne Offutt, and Mark Bigham.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Monday, January 5 at the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with the Reverend Gary Bowman officiating. Burial will be in Gordon Memorial Gardens with full military honors presented by the Shanklin Attaway American Legion Honor Guard of Rome. The family will receive friends Monday morning from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM preceding the funeral service.
