Courtney Hammond

Courtney Hammond, age 63 of Sugar Valley, passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at Gordon Hospital. Courtney was born on January 22, 1956, in Floyd County, to Walter Melvin Hammond and Sara Elizabeth Hunt Hammond. He was a lifetime resident of Gordon County. He loved Alabama Football, Fishing, Hunting and watching college football on Saturday. Courtney was an avid reader and really enjoyed southern rock music. Courtney is preceded in death by his father Walter Melvin Hammond. He is survived by his mother, Sarah Elizabeth Hunt Hammond; brothers, Jeffery Hammond and his wife Sanjunana, Tracy Hammond, Paul Hammond and his wife Angela; eleven nieces and nephews, Hartley Hammond, Gage Hammond, Natalie Thomas, Hunt Hammond, Walt Hammond, Lani Hammond, Trace Hammond, Tilly Hammond, Jordan Hammond, Andrew Morris, and Nelson Gravitt. Funeral Services will be conducted on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at 3 PM from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Reverend Mitch Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery. Pallbearers serving are as follows: Gage Hammond, Nelson Gravitt, Walt Hammond, Wayne Bowen, Trace Hammond Jr., Hunt Hammond, Wade Baldwin, Bo Richardson, Tony McBrayer, Jeff Walraven, Ricky Cronan, Larry Stamey, and Kim Muse. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at Thomas Funeral Home from 1 PM until the funeral hour.
