November 6, 2010 Mr. Cornelious "Neal" Jones, age 79, of Calhoun. Died Friday November 5th in the Floyd Medical Center. Neal was born September 9, 1931 in Floyd County. Son of the late Will and Willie Mae Sharp Jones. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and a member of the Rock Bridge Community Church. He severed his community as a volunteer for the Habitat for Humanity and as a member of the Calhoun Elks Lodge #1883. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Carole Jones. A son, Michael Keith Burnett, Sr. and a brother, Jim Tom Jones. Survivors include two daughters; Vicki Jones Davis and her husband Bruce of Dalton and Velvet Tucker and her husband Jimmy, Jr. of Calhoun. Two sisters; Annie Ruth Jones of Calhoun and Emma Shelnutt of Shannon. A sister in law, Lynda Layson of Savannah. Eight grandchildren; Michael Keith Burnett, Jr., Amber Whitfield Offutt, Jason Burnett, Heather Bailey, Angel Bailey, Ashley Lloyd, Jake Davis, and Garrett Tucker. Four great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday November 9th at 1pm from the chapel of Thomas Funeral Home. With Rev. Mitch Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery. Pallbearers serving include; Lex Floyd, Richard Goble, Ray Bailey, Joe Fugatt, Tony Lackey, and Mike Connally. Gordon Sweeney will serv as honorary escort. The family request that in addition to flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5 until 8pm.
