Retired Lt. Colonel Harry Joe Rhinehart of 3928 Halisport Dr., Kennesaw, Georgia went to be with the Lord on May 17, 2008. He was born November 7, 1937 in Waynesville, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his father, Gaston Andrew Rhinehart and his mother Emma Lou Hipps Rhinehart.
Joe was a career man in the Army, and served his country in a number of places around the world, including two plus years in Vietnam. He was highly decorated in Vietnam receiving three silver stars and three bronze stars for valor. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel and was a high school English teacher at Furtah Preparatory School the last years of his life. He had a masters degree from Western Carolina University and spent three years teaching at the Military Academy at West Point. Just before his death he had a book published titled The Iron Triangle that he had worked on for several years. He attended the Mars Hill Presbyterian Church in Acworth.
Joe will truly be missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Jin, daughters, Marina, Yuki, and Helen; son, John and step-daughter, Lea; brother, Bill and his family and brother, Phillip and his family; and his former commanding officer and dear friend, Colonel Jim Franklin.
Funeral serves will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday May 21st. from the Mars Hill Presbyterian Church with Dr. Bryan Harris officiating. Interment will follow in the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton at 1:00 P.M.
The family will receive friends at the Mars Hill Presbyterian Church from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday May 20th.
