"Charlie" Charles Hugh Godfrey

Charles Hugh “Charlie” Godfrey, age 79 of Calhoun, passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at his residence. Charlie was born on October 1, 1940 in Gordon County, GA, son of the late Roy Hugh Godfrey and Alma Treadaway Godfrey. In addition to his parents, Charlie was also preceded in death by: two brothers, Billy Godfrey and Alton Godfrey; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joe and Ruth Holcomb. Charlie used to be co-owner of Industrial Supplies and prior to his retirement was owner and operator of C&J Towing. He attended Sugar Valley Baptist Church; and he was a member of the Resaca Masonic Lodge #724 F&AM. Charlie loved NASCAR, metal detect for relics, and joke telling. Charlie is survived by: his wife, Judy Wilson Godfrey of Calhoun; sister-in-law, Janice Brooks and her husband Jimmy of Griffin, GA; niece, Brandy Thompson and her husband Richard of Griffin, GA; god-son, Haley O’Neal and his wife Cheyenne, and their children, Regan and Avery O’Neal; special friends, Doug and Joan Sumner of Calhoun; and surviving friends of Sugar Valley Pocket Shanty. A Graveside Service will be held on Sunday, March 1st at2 PM in Chandler Cemetery with Reverend Donnie Hudgens in charge of graveside rites. Pallbearers serving include: Haley O’Neal, Doug Sumner, Jerome Holcomb, James Hyde, Ed Harkins, and Randy Seabolt. The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 29th from 5 PM until 7 PM at Thomas Funeral Home.
