Charley Rae Quinn, age 79, of the Nickelsville Community, passed away Sunday morning March 6th at his residence surrounded by his family following an extended illness.
Rae was born January 31, 1937 in Gordon County son of the late Clyde Thomas Quinn and Pearl Fair Quinn. He was a graduate of Red Bud High School and was an alumni of Berry College. He was a member of the Calhoun First United Methodist Church. Rae started his career with GE in the computer division. He then moved to New Jersey where he founded his own company Rapidata Incorporated. He moved back to his home town in 1977 to work for Shaw Industries as Director of Information Services for 19 years prior to his retirement. He was an avid golfer and was on the City of Calhoun Golf Committee.
Besides his parents Rae was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Coggins and his granddaughter, Crystal Elzey.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years Edna Quinn of the Nickelsville Community; two daughters, Judi Ellison and her husband Leslie of Rome and Kim Hawkins and her husband John of Marietta; one brother, Jerry Quinn and his wife Carol of the Nickelsville Community; one sister, Sue Reece of Atlanta. Six grandchildren, Anissa Ellison, Leslie Ellison and his wife Tiffany, Joey Hawkins and his wife Lisa, LeAnne Smith and her husband Shannon, Nicole Peek and her husband Brandon, and Stephanie Rae Hawkins; five great-grandchildren, Alexis, Conner, Kayleigh, Ashlen, and Noa. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Services to Celebrate the Life of Charley Rae Quinn will be conducted Wednesday March 9th at 3:30 PM from the Calhoun First United Methodist Church with Dr. Eddie Henning and Rev. Luke Morgan officiating. Honorary Escorts will be “The Convertible Group”.
The family will receive friends from 5 PM until 8 PM Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
