Charles Douglas "Doug" Thomason, age 67 of Calhoun, passed away after a hard fought battle with Alzheimers disease on January 8, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.
Doug was born in Calhoun, Georgia on November 16, 1956 son of Judy Brown Thomason and the late James "JT" Thomason. He was a 1974 graduate of Calhoun High School. After working for over 20 years at his family business he went on to be a Regional Sales Manager for General Wholesale Company in Atlanta where he worked until 2013.
Doug was a lifelong golfer and his favorite past time was playing golf with his family and friends at the Calhoun Elks Club. He spent many years volunteering his time for the Little Angels Memorial Charity Golf Tournament to raise money to benefit the children and families of the Boehm Birth Defects Center. He loved fishing and spending time with his late grandmother Florence "Mama Glass" Sewell, visiting with his many friends at Daytona Beach every year and watching the Georgia Bulldogs play football. He was a member of Freedom Baptist Church where he served as an Elder.
Doug is survived by his wife Debbie Thomason of Calhoun, daughters Katie (Jake) Sponberger of Ringgold and Kelly (Andrew) Roe Spurlock of Bremen, grandson Kade Mashburn of Calhoun, mother Judy Thomason of Calhoun, and brothers Mike (Samantha) Thomason of Blairsville and Steve (Jennifer) Thomason of Rome.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Orchard Ridge Residences and Hearth Hospice for their compassionate care.
Pallbearers are Larry Brock, Ralph Lane, Jake Sponberger, Andrew Spurlock, Mike Thomason, and Steve Thomason.
The family will receive friends at Thomas Funeral Home of Calhoun on January 10, 2024 at 11:00am. Funeral services will be conducted immediately following visitation at 1:00pm with Reverend Jether Cochran officiating. Private burial to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his memory to the Alzheimers Association of North Georgia, 922 East Morris Street, Dalton, GA 30721.
