MR. CHARLES T. OWENS, AGE 85, A WELL KNOWN GORDON COUNTY BUSINESS MAN OF 201 WOODLAND DR. , CALHOUN, DIED THURSDAY JULY 6TH. IN THE GORDON HOSPITAL FOLLOWING SEVERAL MONTHS OF DECLINING HEALTH.
CHARLES T. WAS BORN IN BARTOW COUNTY ON MAY 13, 1921 SON OF THE LATE ARTHUR COLEMAN OWENS SR. . AND LILLIE MAE MEALOR OWENS. FOR OVER 45 YEARS HE WAS THE OWNER AND OPERATOR OF OWENS FLORIST IN CALHOUN. HE WAS A MEMBER OF THE CALHOUN FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH ,HIS LOVE OF MUSIC LED HIM TO STUDY AT THE STAMPS BAXTER MUSIC SCHOOL AND HE WAS A WELL KNOWN TEACHER AND COMPOSER OF GOSPEL MUSIC HAVING TAUGHT GOSPEL MUSIC FOR MANY CHURCHES OVER THE NORTH GA. AREA. . CHARLES T. ALONG WITH HIS BROTHERS AND SISTER SANG FOR MANY FUNERALS OVER THE YEARS . HE WAS A VETERAN OF THE U.S. NAVY SERVING IN THE SOUTH PACIFIC IN WWII. IN ADDITION TO HIS PARENTS HE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY A BROTHER; ARTHUR OWENS,A SISTER; DORTHA LOUEASE OWENS, A NIECE CHERYL DARNELL AND A NEPHEW KEITH OWENS.
SURVIVORS INCLUDE HIS WIFE GENEVA RICKETT OWENS OF CALHOUN, THREE SONS; THOMAS AND STEVEN AND ROBERT OWENS ALL OF CALHOUN.. FIVE SISTERS; PAULINE DAVIS, CHRISTINE BALLIEW, DOLLY McENTYRE AND LINDA GALLOWAY ALL OF CALHOUN AND DIMPLE DARNELL OF CARTERSVILLE. THREE BROTHERS; ERNEST, JAMES, AND KENNETH OWENS ALL OF CALHOUN. A NUMBER OF NIECES AND NEPHEWS ALSO SURVIVE.
FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE CONDUCTED AT 2:00 P.M. SATURDAY JULY 8TH.FROM THE CALHOUN FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH WITH DR. BERT VAUGHN AND DR. JOHN L. BLEDSOE OFFICIATING. INTERMENT WILL FOLLOW IN THE FAIN CEMETERY.
PALLBEARERS SERVING ARE NEPHEWS AND INCLUDE, COLEMAN BALLIEW, REED DAVIS, MITCHELL AND EDWARD OWENS, GARY McENTYRE, BRENNON GALLOWAY, ZACK OWENS AND KENNY FEQUEA AND THEY ARE ASKED TO MEET AT THE THOMAS FUNERAL HOME AT 12:30 P.M. ON SATURDAY. HONORARY PALLBEARERS INCLUDE, ROBERT KING. JOHN ALLEN KING, HAROLD CRUMP, RICHARD LOWERY, DR LEON GRESHAM, ROGER GRESHAM, JAMES MOORE, BILLY PADGETT, DALE DEMPSEY, TRUETT MOSS, LEE HUNT, CALVIN CALDWELL, DAVID ERWIN, EUGENE BUTTERWORTH , PHILLIP BEAMER AND RODNEY HARBIN AND THEY ARE ASKED TO MEET AT THE CHURCH AT 1:45 P.M. SATURDAY.
ON SATURDAY CHARLES T. WILL BE CARRIED TO THE CHURCH TO LIE INSTATE AT THE CHURCH FROM 1:00 UNTIL THE FUNERAL HOUR.
THE FAMILY WILL RECEIVE FRIENDS AT THE THOMAS FUNERAL HOME FROM 6:00 UNTIL 9:00 P.M. ON FRIDAY JULY 7TH.
