Charles S. Greene

Charles Simpson Greene, age 92 of Calhoun, passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at his residence. Charles was born on August 2, 1924 in Ranger, Georgia, son of the late Leroy Simpson Greene and Rosa Bell Blalock Greene. Charles was an honor graduate of Fairmount High School in 1941 and attended Berry College for one year before being drafted into the United States Army where he served with the 8th Armored Division in Europe during WWII. After the war he worked for Lockheed Aircraft for 33 years prior to his retirement at age 60. Charles attended the New Echota Methodist Church and besides his parents was preceded in death by his three sisters, Eva Mae Overton, Syble Price, and Tressie Holmes. Charles is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary Jean Poarch Greene of Calhoun. The couple have two sons, David Greene and his wife Mary of Lenexa, Kansas and Neal Greene and his wife Marian of Lawrenceville, Georgia. Six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services will be conducted on Friday March 3rd at 11am from the chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Rev. Keith Willard and Dr. John Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery. Pallbearers serving will include, Ben Greene, Geoff Greene, Adam Greene, Jerry Price, Barry Wright and Jackie Burns. Honorary escorts will be George Owens, Allan Holmes, Michael Holmes, John Gazaway, Matthew Robertson, Leslie Deperro and the Care at Home staff, Lisa Beasley, as well as the staff and caretakers at North Star Hospice and members of the New Echota United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 5 until 7pm at the funeral home. The family request that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Charles S.
