Charles Broughton Earnest

Charles Broughton Earnest, Jr. age-81 of Calhoun, Ga. Passed away on Friday, July 25, 2014. Mr. Earnest was born on February 4, 1933, son of the late C.B. Earnest, Sr. and the late Julia Griggs Earnest. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Betsy Carson. Charles Earnest is survived by his wife, of 58 years, Catherine King Earnest, his children, Michael G. Earnest (Cindy), daughters Karen Mizell (Malcolm), Jennine McDaris (Greg), and Mary Catherine (Kitty) Rabun (Ben). Grandchildren include Myles Earnest, Micah Earnest, Mary Beth Gable (James); Dean McDaris, Christopher McDaris, Jana McDaris, Katie Rabun, and Benjamin Rabun, and one Great Grandchild, Burch Gable. He also has several nieces and a nephew. Mr. Earnest graduated from Cedartown HS and the Uni. Of Georgia. He played football at UGA under Coach Wally Butts, was a member of the Blue Key Society, G Club, Gridiron Society and Wally's Boys. He served as a Lt. In the US Army after graduating from UGA. Charles Earnest was a two time resident of Calhoun, Ga. Serving as a teacher and head football coach at Calhoun High School from 1963 – 1966. Then again in 1989 when he took a job at Red Bud High School. Prior to his retirement he was employed as an educator, coach, special events bus driver with the Gordon Co. Board of Education. He was a member of Calhoun First Baptist Church and the Faith Seekers SS Class. During his high school, college and adult years he served with the Ga. Baptist Brotherhood Department at Camp Pinnacle in Clayton, Ga. and Camp Glynn in Brunswick, Ga.. The family would like to send a special thanks to Charles's care givers at Care at Home, Gordon Home Care and the Homestead Hospice. His body will be cremated and a Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 2, at 4:00 at Thomas Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Saturday, August 2, from 2-4 at Thomas Funeral Home.
