Carl Bates Wood

Thursday, December 24, 2009 Mr. Carl Bates Wood Jr. of Calhoun, died Wednesday December 23rd at his residence. Mr. Wood was born in Gordon County on March 18, 1923 son of the late Carl Bates Wood Sr. and Lula Fite Wood and was a lifelong resident. Carl was a faithful member and Deacon of Reeves Baptist Church and was an employee of Venture Carpet and Lockheed. He was a veteran of WWII serving with the U.S. Army Air Corps. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Mary Frances Wood in 2007; and two brothers, Wyatt Wood and Hoyt Wood. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Sam and Lynda King of Calhoun, a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and C.L. Weaver, two granddaughters Stephania Hyde and her husband John, Crystal Brown and her husband Roy, two great-grandsons, Jody Hyde and Dylan Hyde, and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, December 27th from the Chapel of the Thomas Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Burns officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in the Red Bud Community. Pallbearers serving include Jody Hyde, Dylan Hyde, Ralph Faulkenberry, Richard Weaver, Larry and David Muse. The gentlemen are asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:45 P.M. Sunday. The family will receive friends at the Thomas Funeral Home from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Saturday evening.
