Buddy Davis, age 76 of Calhoun, passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2015 at his home with his family beside him.
He was born in Calhoun on September 25, 1938, at the Johnson-Hall Clinic, the son of the late Bunyan D. Davis, Sr. and Nancy Clifford Free Davis. His early years were spent in the Red Bud community and Red Bud School. At age 19 he enlisted with two of his friends in the United States Army. After completing basic training and signal school, and before being deployed to Toul, France for 30 months, he married Martha Hilley Davis, they have one son Russell C. Davis, daughter in law, Larissa Davis, one grandson, Parker Davis who is a fourth year student at Georgia Tech, his sister, Maxine Cobb. Nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Lois Owen and her husband Merrill, Doris Owen and her husband Dwinell, Jamae Baker and her husband Buddy, as well as brother in law, Spencer Talley.
Spec 4 Davis was very proud of his military life. After returning home Buddy worked for the Calhoun Drug Store before going to work for Liberty National Life Insurance Company for 20 years were he set many company records and was inducted into the Million Dollar Roundtable. But, his favorite job was the owner and operator of Buddy Davis Charter Coach Tours, which he operated for 20 years. He loved the folks that traveled with him in all 48 states, Canada, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. Buddy was a member of the First Baptist Church of Calhoun where he loved driving the church bus for the seniors. He was Past-President of the Calhoun Jaycees. His favorite hobby was “trading” (everything but his wife). His loves were his family, his church, eating breakfast at Martin’s Corner with his friends every morning and all the folks he met in his life.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Wednesday August 5th at 4pm from the chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Dr. John Barber officiating. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery. Music will be arranged by Donnie Nesbitt.
Pallbearers serving include, Scott Clements, Joe Taylor, Scott Irmscher, Jerry Bearden, Tom Pope, and Bill Thompson. Honorary Pallbearers will include Harold and Cynthia Cochran Raj and Sony Patel, the Breakfast Bunch at Martin’s Corner, Harry and Tommy Frix, Jimmy and Scottie Knight and William and Letha Beason.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 5 until 7pm at the funeral home.
