Boyd M. Cochran, age 80, long time businessman of Calhoun. Died Friday evening March 11th in Gordon Hospital.
Boyd was born April 26, 1930 in Gordon County. Son of the late Frank A. and Anne Hollis Cochran. He was a member of the Calhoun First Baptist Church, the American Legion and the Oothcaloga Masonic Lodge #154. Boyd was a veteran of the United States Air Force having served in Korea. He was a self employed house mover and pulled his last house when he was 79 years old. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters; Horace, C.P., Frank, and Howell Cochran, Ruby Beatse, Clara Higgins and Anne Diehl.
He loved the outdoors, gardening, fishing, restoring old cars and especially traveling the back roads of the United States. He pulled his RV to Alaska twice, across Canada several times and to every state in the lower 48. He was known to say the only reason he didn't go to Hawaii was because they hadn't built a bridge.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Charlotte Williams Cochran. His children; Howell Cochran and his wife Kathy, Russell Cochran, Melissa Tomlinson and her husband Jimmy, Pam Edwards and her husband Al, and Laura Ruth and her husband Chuck. Grandchildren; Leann Bone and her husband Josh, Brandon Tomlinson and his wife Susannah, John Cochran, Laura Long and her husband Josh, Carrie Edwards, Emily Edwards, Dean and Zachary Ruth. A great grandson, Asa Bone as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday March 14th at 2pm from the Calhoun First Baptist Church. With Dr. Bert Vaughn officiating. Burial will follow in Chandler Cemetery. Pallbearers serving will include his grandsons; Brandon Tomlinson, John Cochran, Zachary Ruth, Josh Bone, and Josh Long. The Sycamore Sunday School Class will serve as Honorary Escorts and include; E.W. (Buck) Prather, Hugh Dell West, Gerald Everett, Kenneth Weddle, Zane Welchel, Hubert Wilkey, Rodney Harbin, Milton Bryson, Joe Slay, Robert Bentley, Larry DeFoor, and Roland Brown.
The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 5 until 8pm.
