Billy K. Padgett, SR, age 82 of Calhoun, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2019 at Gordon Hospital.
Billy was born on January 22, 1937 in Gordon County, GA to the late William Calvin Padgett and Lula May Belle Ray Padgett. In addition to his parents, Billy was also preceded in death by: his wife, Norma Fox Padgett; and his four sisters, Willie Mae Padgett, Thelma Neal, Vinnie Lois Corn, and Agnes Woodring. Billy was a Calhoun High School graduate, Class of 1955, where he was on the football team when they won the State Championship in 1952. He was a member of the Oothcalooga Masonic Lodge #154 F&AM and earned his 50-year pin. Billy served on the Calhoun City Council from 1970 until 1978 and during his term was named Mayor Pro-Tem. He was a member of the Calhoun First Baptist Church and the Calhoun Georgia National Guard Armory.
Billy is survived by: his son, Kenny Padgett and his wife Marie of Calhoun; grandson, Dennis Elmore and his wife Connie of Calhoun; sister-in-law, Gail Helms and her husband Gary of Homosassa, FL; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Tuesday, April 16th at 2 PM from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Dr. Bert Vaughn and Dr. John Barber officiating. Interment will follow in Fain Cemetery.
Pallbearers serving include: J.H. Chapman, James Benniker, Keith Richardson, Winfred Hawkins, Skipper Stewart, Jimmy Prater, and Dave Prater. Honorary pallbearers include: Howard Ralston, Gary Hughey, Larry Gaines, and surviving members of the 1952 Calhoun High Championship Football team.
The family will receive friends on Monday, April 15th from 5 PM until 8 PM at Thomas Funeral Home.
