Billy Barton

Billy Barton, Sr., age 81 of Resaca a well-known Barber of Gordon County, passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Gordon Hospital. Billy was born on July 14, 1934 in Gordon County to the late Mitchel T. Barton and Rosa Lee Edwards Barton. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Billy had been a minister and pastored a number of churches over the last 61 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Joann Williams; and grandson, Heath Barton. He is survived by his wife, Mary Farris Barton of Resaca; son, Bill Barton of Greenwood, SC; two daughters, Pam Barton Logan and her husband Jerry of Greenville, SC, and Christa Barton Smith and her husband Mark of Greenwood, SC; step-son, Rex Lowe and his wife Aimee of Calhoun; six grandchildren, Kim Craig, Amy Hughes, Jason Logan, Jared Barton, Russell Smith, and Reese Smith; and three great-grandchildren, Walker Craig, Evy Craig, and Ady Craig also survive. Funeral Services will be conducted on Wednesday, February 24th at 3 PM at Bethel Baptist Church with Reverend Isaac Johns and Reverend Jackie Clayton officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Zion Cemetery with Reverend Dino Bishop officiating. Pallbearers serving will be Shawn Kittle, Bobby Bowers, Donald Lee, James Morgan, R.V. Stanley, and David Craig. The family will receive friends on Monday and Tuesday evening from 5 until 9 PM both evenings at Thomas Funeral Home.
