Betty Bagley Williams, age 83 of Calhoun, passed away on Thursday, January 08, 2015 at Gordon Hospital.
Betty was born on December 22, 1931 in Whitfield County, a daughter of the late Ervin Bagley and Beaulah Moreland Bagley. Also she was preceded in death by her husband D.F. “Preacher” Williams and a granddaughter, Niele Oglesby Smith and spent most of her adult life in Calhoun. Growing up in Dalton, she attended Dalton High School and was a majorette. She
was a member of the Calhoun First Baptist Church.
Betty was raised in a deeply spiritual family where her mother wrote Gospel songs sung by many Gospel groups. She and her sister Willene had a Gospel radio show where she played the mandolin. She was an active member of the Eastern Star, the Jaycettes and the Elkettes. She was a very crafty person and made many dolls for the underprivileged children. Also, she made a doll for Amy Carter.
She is survived by her children, Vickie Marcotte and her husband Doug of Alpharetta, Sandra McFather and her husband Ed of Ball Ground; Michael Williams and special family friend Teresa Hawkins; Billy Williams and his wife Vickie; two sisters, Willene Morgan of Calhoun and Margaret Wilson of Chatsworth; 6 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Saturday, January 10 at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Calhoun with Dr. John Barber officiating. Carolyn Thompson and Maudie Weaver will have charge of music. Interment will follow in Fain Cemetery.
Pallbearers serving include Deke Findley, Flipper McDaniel, Dennis Williams, Isaac Williams, Glenn Wilson, Randy Baggett and Danny Baggett. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 4 – 7 PM at Thomas Funeral Home.
