Mrs. Bettie Joe Burgess, age 80 of Calhoun, passed away Sunday, January 15th at her residence. Bettie was born May 16, 1931 in Whitfield County. Daughter of the late Walker and Susie Bell Bennett. She was a member of the Hall Memorial Baptist Church and in addition to her parents was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Burgess; two sons, Jerry and Roy Burgess; two sisters, Johnnie Slimster and Nellie Tensley; a son-in-law, Jerry McClure; and two grandchildren, Sherry McClure and Kelly McClure. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Nikki Burgess of Calhoun; four daughters, Lavada McClure of Calhoun, Donna Farmer and her husband Mike of Calhoun, Diane Parker and her husband Alfred of Calhoun, and Elaine Valentine and her husband Julio of Chattanooga; two sisters, Mattie Nicholson of Dalton and Tony Ledford of Calhoun; and two daughters-in-law, Fay Burgess and Mary Burgess both of Calhoun. Grandchildren; Terry McClure, Angie Kirby, Jerry McClure, Tiffany Kiser, Zack Burgess, Brittany Ullman, Cameron Farmer, Michael Framer, Russell Fite, Cindy Parker, Tracy Benson, Mariah Martin, Randall Martin, Shae Burgess, Justin Rhinehart, Christy Rhinehart, Christy Dalton, Roy Burgess, Casey Burgess, Samantha Burgess, and Skishae Dalton. Fifty-five great grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday January 18th at 3:30pm from the chapel of Thomas Funeral Home. With Rev. Michael Farmer officiating. Burial will follow in Chandler Cemetery. Pallbearers serving will include Terry McClure, Michael Farmer, Jr., Russell Fite, Julio Ruiz, Casey Burgess, Roy Burgess, Bubba Kiser, and Michael Ullman. Honorary pallbearers are Joseph Rhinehart, Cameron Farmer, Christopher Pendergrass, and Randy Martin. The Burgess family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon from 1pm until 8pm at the funeral home.
