Thursday, August 10, 2006 Mrs. Bessie Childers, age 80 of the Ranger Community, died Wednesday August 9th. at her residence following several months of declining health. Bessie was born in Gordon County, Ga. on November 17, 1925 daughter of the late Martin and Mary Jane Pack Hightower and had been a lifelong resident of the Hightower Loop Community in Gordon County. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a Brother Jim Tom Hightower. Survivors include her husband of 60 years Charlie Childers, Three sons and their wives; Dennis and Brenda Childers of Ranger, Ga., Willard and Barbara Childers of Calhoun and Kenneth and Jane Childers of Calhoun. Three sisters; Lessie Coggins of Dalton, Inez Smith of Rairmount, and Virginia Sutton of Dalton, a sister-in-law; Lucille Hightower of Ranger. Seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Friday August 11th. from the Chapel of the Thomas Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Cole and Rev. Jeff Dutton officiating. Interment will follow in the Haven of Rest Memorial Park in Calhoun with Tony Coggins conducting the graveside rites. Pallbearers serving include Adam, Brian and Kevin Childers, Tony Coggins, Wendel Mathews and Hugh Thomason and they are asked to meet at the Funeral Home at 10:30 A.M. Friday. Judith Hall will have charge of the music. The family will receive friends at the Thomas Funeral Home from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. today (Thursday).
