Barbara Reeves Smith, age 83 of Calhoun, passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at her residence. Barbara was born on August 7, 1929, daughter of the late Thomas Jefferson Reeves and Pearl Hood Reeves. Barbara was a member of the New Town Baptist Church and was active in starting the W.M.U. at the church, and was formerly employed by Red Bud High School. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sanford Smith in 1989 and brother, Marvin Reeves. Survivors include: her son, Thomas S. Smith and his wife Cathy of Calhoun; four daughters, Cheryl Jones and her husband Larry, Jane Watkins and her husband John, Sarah Pearson and her husband Steven and Judy Peterson and her husband Eddie all of Calhoun; sister, Mary Nell Hollingsworth of McDonough, GA; sisters-in-law, Gladys Reeves of Calhoun and Kate Cash of Salem, OR; grandchildren, Jada Jones Bocchicchio, Jana Jones Knight, Julie Jones Alexander, Holli Watkins, Beau Watkins, Dana Patterson MacKay, Sally Peterson, Adam Smith, Rebekah Echols, Blaze Pearson and Blu Pearson; nineteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services will be conducted on Friday, June 21st at 11:00am at New Town Baptist Church with the Reverend Walter Hare officiating. Burial will follow in Chandler Cemetery with Dr. Steven Pearson in charge of graveside committal services. Mrs. Smith will be taken to New Town Baptist Church on Friday, June 21st at 10:00am, where she will lie in state at the church until the funeral hour. The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 20th after 4pm at the funeral home.
