Barbara Jean Mercer Mann, age 81, died on October 5, 2021 comfortably at her home in Calhoun, Georgia after an ongoing decline in health due to dementia. Barbara was born April 29, 1940 in Leesburg, Virginia to John Nathaniel Mercer and Della Aline Mercer.
Barbara moved to College Park, Georgia in 1959 to live with an aunt and uncle. Barbara first worked in Atlanta at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Later, she had a successful career as an office manager for an optometrist in Mableton, Georgia before working at Cox Enterprises prior to her retirement.
Barbara was a beautiful, quiet, graceful, and strong lady. She was dedicated to her family and her church. In her final years, she made certain each person knew they were loved more than they would ever know. Best known for her kindness and selflessness, she was respected and appreciated by all that knew her.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, sister Mary Lou Mercer Bunch, and brothers Charles Sidney Mercer, John Douglas Mercer, and Frankie Lee Mercer.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years George Allen Mann, daughter Sharon Kay Mann and her husband Rick Froehbrodt of Cardiff by the Sea, California; son Kelly Alan Mann and his wife Nancy Gilstrap Mann of Windsor, Colorado; daughter Kimberly Carol Mann Fraker and her husband James Forrest Fraker, Jr. of Rydal, Georgia; Brothers in law and sisters in law Carol Tench of Bristol, Virginia; Jean Smith of Statesville, North Carolina; Stanley and Sandra Mann of Bristol, Tennessee; Gary Mann of Abingdon, Virginia; Jackie Mercer of Leesburg, Virginia; Allen Bunch of Douglasville, Georgia; Mary Jane Pierce of Berryville, Virginia; and grandchildren Jennifer Erin Fraker of Douglasville, Georgia; James Forrest Fraker, III and his wife Korey of Kirkland, Washington; Carter Aaron Mann of Lakewood, Colorado; Kayley Grace Fraker of Talking Rock, Georgia; and Casey Elizabeth Mann of Lakewood, Colorado. She also leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great nephews, and great nieces all of whom she loved dearly.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Calhoun First Baptist Church 411 College Street Calhoun, Georgia 30701.
The family will receive friends on Friday, October 8, 2021 at 9 AM until the funeral hour at 11 AM at Calhoun First Baptist Church.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Friday, October 8, 2021 at 11 AM at Calhoun First Baptist Church with Reverend Lance Cole officiating.
A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at 11:30 AM at the Georgia National Cemetery.
