Barbara Carol Hasselbrack, affectionately known as Carol, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2024, at the age of 82. Born on December 7, 1942, she was the youngest of five daughters born to O.D. and Mae Altizer. Carol grew up in Cedar Bluff, Virginia, where she cherished her childhood surrounded by her loving family.
Carol pursued her passion for nursing, obtaining her bachelor's degree in Nursing from Columbia Union College in Maryland. Her dedication to healthcare led her to Loma Linda, California, where she earned her Master's degree in Nursing. It was in Loma Linda that Carol met her husband, Wally Hasselbrack. The two were married for 52 wonderful years and were blessed with one daughter.
Throughout her career, Carol made significant contributions to healthcare administration, serving as a vice president of nursing at several different hospitals. Her commitment to improving patient care and supporting her colleagues was evident in every role she undertook. Carol and Wally spent over 50 years in St. Helena, California, where they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Three and a half years ago, Carol and Wally moved to Calhoun, Georgia, to be closer to family. Carol's warmth, kindness, and unwavering dedication to her family and profession will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Carol is survived by her husband, Wally, daughter and son-in-law, Jeni and Carlyle Ingersoll, two sisters – Glenna Little and Sue Stimmel, and her extended family and friends. Her legacy of compassion and service will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her.
A Memorial Service will be held for Carol on February 15 at 3p.m. at the Calhoun Seventh-day Adventist Church.
