Alva Fite

Tuesday, May 06, 2008 Mrs. Alva Jean Fite passed away Monday May 5th 2008 at the age of 98 in Gordon Health Care. She was born in Atlanta, Ga. on May 12, 1910 daughter of the late Eugene and Estell Murphy Keefe. She lived her early life in Marietta, Ga. where she met and married Warren Fite of Calhoun. In 1933 she and her husband moved to Calhoun and started a department store with Clyde Evans. It was known as Evans and Fite. When World War II came along they had to dissolve that business and later each of them opened their own store. Jean and Warren were in the dress business known as “Fites” for 50 years. She was an early member of the Hillhouse Garden Club and had been a member of the Calhoun First United Methodist Church since 1935. She also loved to play bridge with her friends and go fishing. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Warren Fite who passed away in 1987, a sister and brother-in-law: Helen and Ralph Hardage. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law; Jean Louise Bond and Thomas “Tom” Bond, one granddaughter; Becky Bond Mathews and her husband William Mathews, great-granddaughter; Susan Mathews Rutland and her husband David Rutland all of Calhoun, a great-granddaughter Helen Bond Mathews of Washington, D.C. also by a friend and caregiver for 8 years Janie Tate. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Friday May 9th. 2008 from the Chapel of the Thomas Funeral Home with Dr. Brian Clark officiating. Interment will follow in the Fain Cemetery The family will receive friends at the Thomas Funeral Home from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Thursday evening. Pallbearers serving include William Mathews, David Rutland, Jimmy Mathews, Reed Davis, Henry Holland and Jan Goble and they are asked to meet at the Funeral Home at 2:30 P.M. Friday.
